TRAFFIC CHAOS EXPECTED AS MAIN NEWPORT ROAD TO CLOSE

newporthighstreetrafficA main road in Newport is set to close for a prolonged period over the next two weeks, which is expected to cause chaos on the Island’s roads.  

Staplers Road will be closed from Furrlongs to Snooks Hill in both directions between 06:00 next Thursday (16th) and 18:00 on Friday (17th) and again between 06:00 on Monday 20th and 18:00 on Thursday 23rd.

Last month a void in the carriageway resulted in a one-way restriction on Staplers Road, which caused traffic tailbacks in and around Newport with traffic snarling up on Coppins Bridge.

Southern Vectis have confirmed that Route 9 buses (via Staplers) and Route 23 buses will operate via Furrlongs (Route 8 route) between Coppins Bridge and Pan Meadows roundabouts in both directions.

Island Roads may change the dates of the roadworks at short notice.
