Sandown Town Council will consider taking over the long-closed Pier Street Toilets site as part of efforts to revitalise the town’s seafront.
The public toilets, located in one of the busiest tourist areas of Sandown, have been shut for several years. They have only reopened on a temporary basis during the summer months when funding has been provided by the Town Council.
The site has long been seen as a key piece in the wider regeneration of Sandown’s seafront. However, the Isle of Wight Council’s latest attempt to redevelop the location and reprovision public facilities has now fallen through.
As a result, Sandown Town Council is considering approaching the Isle of Wight Council with a proposal to take over the site and repurpose it as a public amenity.
The matter will be discussed at an Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the Town Council on Monday 27th October at 19:00, to be held at the Broadway Centre.

Fallen through? How hard is it to fix the toilets? Just been in Kent. Toilets in small villages that are ancient. You don’t have to impress people. Id go back there, but if I came here on holiday, I’d be unlikely to return , even though I like living here.
They need demolishing so do the ones near Newport bus station and not forgetting the council offices ball and chain would do the job.
