Ventnor opener Tom Friend scored 156 runs off 94 balls as Ventnor emphatically beat Calmore Sports by 9 wickets at Steephill on Saturday (20th May).
Friend’s innings included 15x 4s and a remarkable 10x 6s. Friend was assisted by fellow opener Dineth Thimodya, who made a quick fire 74 off 63 balls before being caught by O’Connor off the bowling of Perry.
Calmore made a respectable total of 238-8 in their 50 overs with openers Will Brewster and Ben Johns putting on 110 for the 1st wicket. Thimodya and Chris Russell both picked up a brace of wickets for Ventnor.
Ventnor’s victory leaves them in 6th place in the Southern Premier Division 1 table with 1 win in 2 games and a total of 25 points

In Division 3 (South), Shanklin & Godshill slumped to their 2nd defeat of the season, losing by a margin of 6 wickets to Ellingham.
However, the mainland side only surpassed Shanklin’s total in the final over with 4 balls to spare.

In Division 4 (South), Ryde 2nds suffered a home defeat at the hands of Solent Rangers by 24 runs.
Rangers could only manage a modest total of 172 runs before being skittled out in the 43rd over with Freddie Boyce and Frank Gumley picking up 3 wickets apiece.
Ryde made 148 in reply with Mark Oatley top scoring with 29 runs.

In Isle of Wight Division 1, Newport CC emphatically beat Freshwater by 137 runs at Newclose with wicketkeeper Kevin Winchcombe scoring an unbeaten 105.
Freshwater could only manage 84 all out in reply off 36 overs. Max Poynter returned the best bowling figures for Newport with 3-15; Aaron Hartup and Gareth Bricknell both picked up a brace of wickets.

In Isle of Wight Division 2, Cowes cruised past near neighbours Northwood with an 8-wicket victory.
Northwood reached a modest total of 113 runs in their 35 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Liam Roberts top-scored for Northwood with a knock of 34 before being caught lbw by Reece Attrill.
Cowes took just over 20 overs to overcome the Northwood total with Jack Summers top scoring with a knock of 58 runs not out.
