Ladies took to the Shanklin & Sandown golf course last Thursday (17th June) in the pursuit of the McClelland Trophies.
The McClelland Trophies were donated in 2018 by Margaret McClelland, Shanklin and Sandown’s longest-serving playing member.
Initially intended to be a focus for the then ‘Thursday morning roll-up ladies’, the trophies, played for twice a year, had become something of a much looked forward to fixture and sought-after prize.
Organised by fellow member, Chris Gould, this fun 9-hole drawn greensome stableford competition, followed by a fish and chip lunch, had brought many in the Ladies’ Section together in quite unlikely partnerships.
It had been a bit of a wait for these trophies to be played for again, as they were last seen in 2019, pre-pandemic.
Taking the honours in 2021 were Viv Williams and Pearl Robertson with 22 points. Jan Easlea and Christine O’Brien took second place with 20 points on count-back over Jane Wilson and Lorraine Harley.
There were 2 nearest the pin prizes awarded. Jan Easlea was the nearest with Pearl Robertson a close second.
