UPDATED: A three car road traffic collision in Newport has led to tailbacks in the town this lunchtime.
The incident has occurred outside the National Tyres garage in Shide at the junction with Medina Avenue, where it is understood a Renault Master Van has collided with a Green Ford Fiesta and a Toyota Hilux.
Firefighters from Newport as well as Police and paramedics are on the scene. It was first feared that at least one person was trapped in the wreckage, however thankfully this was not the case.
A powercable resulted in the closure of St George’s Way earlier today, a closure that has been extended towards Blackwater due to the collision, with traffic being diverted via Medina Avenue.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 11:00.
Paramedics have taken two persons to hospital, an eight-year-old girl with a suspected fractured jaw and a 26-year-old male whose injuries are unknown.
The road reopened at 14:30.
