UK chocolatier Thorntons have announced that their Ryde store is set to close, adding to the town’s diminishing high street concerns.
Signs placed in the store’s windows in the last week apologise for the stores closure, advising that the nearest alternative outlet will be Newport.
Located in the heart of the town, the store currently offers a comprehensive chocolate shop as well as a popular café.
Speaking about the closure, one local resident told Island Echo: “It is a shame that it is closing, it always seems so busy. Just another store gone in Ryde – when will it end?”.
It is understood that the store will be replaced by a Costa Coffee outlet, with most of the staff being retained.
UPDATE 16/05 – Costa Coffee have today confirmed the opening of a new store on the former Thornton’s premises.
