A popular Bembridge pub and restaurant is to reopen under new management, its former owners have announced.
The Spinnaker, located in Steyne Road, was previously part of the Inns of Distinction group who run several other pubs and restaurants across the Island.
An announcement was made on Thursday, however, announcing that the restaurant – which has been closed for a time – will reopen under the ownership of Laura and Mark Holmes and Steve Harris who also run The Chequers in Rookley.
The new Spinnaker team said:
“We can’t contain our excitement any longer! We finally have the keys to The Spinnaker and work has begun to welcome you all soon! You will most likely see a lot of activity and some building work going on over the next few weeks.
“If you see us around, make sure you say “Hello”. We look forward to becoming part of your community!”
The pub is also set to potentially undergo a name change, with a post on its Facebook page asking for votes on 3 potential choices – all of which are former names of the establishment. They include:
- The Spinnaker
- The Birdham
- The Windmill

Many happy memories growing up in the public bar at the birdham during the 70’s,80’s. It used to be packed with locals. Then it went all arty farty and full of snobs. Bit like bembridge !!!!
The Birdham would be good again !
The name hasn’t changed for locals. It’s The Birdham Hotel. Always will be…
