Staff at The Chequers are continuing to celebrate after being named Hospitality Business of the Year at the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Business Awards earlier this month.
The Rookley-based pub fought of competition from fellow Isle of Wight businesses; The Blacksmiths, The Island Holiday Company, and The Seaview Hotel at the black-tie ceremony on 9th May.
The Chequers Inn, a Grade II listed building dating back to the 18th century, has been a staple in the community for centuries. Originally serving as a customs house, it has evolved into a family-friendly pub known for its locally sourced food and welcoming atmosphere.
Owned and operated by the Holmes family since 1988, the pub underwent significant refurbishment under the stewardship of Mark and Laura Holmes, who continue to uphold its tradition of quality and hospitality.
Wight Pubs – the parent company – also operates The White Lion in Niton and The Birdham in Bembridge.
A spokesperson for The Chequers Inn has said:
“After winning Hospitality Business of the Year award the other night, our team is still on cloud 9. What a night it was and we’d like to thank the IW Chamber for putting on such an incredible evening.
“The win is a true testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication! We hope we made our customers proud.”
The awards ceremony, hosted by television personality Jamie Laing, celebrated outstanding achievements across various business sectors on the Isle of Wight.
