The annual Isle of Wight Schools Indoor Rowing Championships was held at The Bay CE School’s newly refurbished Sports Centre last Thursday (2nd February), with the hosts taking the win for the 5th consecutive year.
All secondary schools on the Island took part in the event, bringing together the best of the best. Year group-based teams competed in both an Endurance and Sprint event, with a relay to finish.
With a strong reputation in this event, The Bay CE School rowers quickly established themselves as the team to beat. However, both Christ the King and the Island Free School put up a strong contest in the early stages, with some fine individual performances.
It was almost success all round for The Bay with Year 8, Year 10 and Year 11 teams each winning their age groups. However, Year 7 came a close 2nd to Christ the King College.
The overall results saw The Bay CE School crowned as champions for the 5th consecutive year with Christ the King College and The Island Free School in joint 2nd place.
Stuart Johnson, Head of PE at The Bay CE School, has said:
“It was fantastic to host such a brilliant event. Thank you to all of the schools for taking part and for the amazing effort put in by all of the competitors. We are proud of our Sports Leaders for helping to make the event such a success and of course very proud of our winning team!”
