The Isle of Wight could see temperatures drop to as low as -5c overnight tonight (Saturday) as the cold spell tightens its grip.
Local forecasters IW Met Service say that a fairly harsh frost will develop later on, which will not only lead to frozen lakes and ponds overnight and into Sunday morning, but potentially icy driving conditions on the Island’s roads too.
Some parts of the Isle of Wight are expected to record -5c, although most areas will see the mercury sitting at around -2c to -3c.

Islanders awoke this morning to the hardest frost of the winter so far and for the next 5 days the average temperature will likely be below 3c.
Islanders should be aware of the risks in the coming days, such as icy roads and walkways, especially in rural parts. Frozen waterways such as ponds and harbours may appear solid ice, but is likely to be very thin.
Island Roads is expected to deploy its fleet of gritters once again, as it has done every day this week – including runs in the daytime when temperatures have struggled to climb.
