UPDATED: A teenage girl has been taken to hospital this afternoon (Tuesday) following a collision between a car and the scooter which she was riding on the outskirts of Newport.
Emergency services were called to Parkhurst Road at around 15:00 after a Suzuki Alto and a 50cc scooter collided on the main stretch of road between Newport and Cowes, leading to the closure of the road.
Several Police units and an ambulance have attended the scene and Police remain in situ as recovery of the vehicles is arranged. One fire appliance from Newport has also attended due to a fuel spillage.
The road has been reopened in one direction (towards Cowes) with southbound traffic being diverted via Hewitt Crescent. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, if possible.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – The road has now reopened in both directions, however traffic remains heavy in the area.
The black scooter has been recovered, whilst the Suzuki Alto involved has been cleared into a nearby layby.
Emergency services have now left the scene.
UPDATE @ 17:27 – The young teenager has been discharged from hospital and is now at home recovering having escaped any serious injury.
