A 17-year-old boy accused of seriously injuring a pensioner during an assault in Haylands back in March will appear before Portsmouth Crown Court next week.
The teenager, who cannot legally be named due to his age, has been charged with Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent.
It follows an incident at Salters Park on 12th March in which a 72-year-old man sustained significant injuries, understood to be a fractured jaw and a bleed on the brain.
The 17-year-old is also charged with possession of a controlled drug of Class B – cannabis, which was discovered during his arrest on Upton Road on 17th March.
Appearing before District Judge Callaway on 23rd April, the teen was told that the matter was deemed to be a grave crime and therefore was being adjourned to the Crown Court.
The teen will appear before Portsmouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Monday 12th May.
He has been remanded into the care of the local authority.
