A man who was rescued from the sea at a Shanklin beach last week has died.
The unknown man in his 60s was swimming just off of the shore along the Sandown to Shanklin Revetment when he suffered a medical episode.
Friends and on-lookers raced to the gentleman’s aid, pulling him from the sea, before paramedics arrived and transferred him to St Mary’s Hospital.
Having spent nearly a week in the Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition, a spokesperson has today confirmed that the swimmer died last night (Thursday).
