A Newport man who kicked a chair from under a woman at Cowes’ The Range has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Kelvin Parker, 33, of Wintergreen Gardens, admitted assault by beating when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 24th June).
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell told the court that on 18th May, an argument between Parker and his partner erupted at The Range in Cowes.
The court heard how a member of management at the store took Parker’s partner and their child to the on-site café.
Upset at what had happened, Parker then proceeded to kick the chair that the staff member was sitting on causing her to fall the ground. The staff member suffered injuries to her back.
Parker – who has 24 offences on his record – was arrested and taken to Newport Police Station.
Defending Parker, Nick Muir, told the court that Parker knew he made a mistake and that his reaction was ‘spur of the moment’. He also added that his client didn’t mean to cause the shop worker any pain.
Handing down his sentence, District Judge Calloway sentenced Parker to 2-months custody suspended for 12-months. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £200.
“Parker – who has 24 offences on his record” And the Judge gives him a suspended sentence. Yet, Lucy Connolly, whom I’ve met her husband through work, received a 36-month custodial sentence for posting her opinion on Social Media.
The Judicial system is broken.
No, the judicial system works as it should. Laws are made and the rules adhered to, as in Lucy Connolly’s case. Racism is against the law and she was jailed for it. As is calling for a person’s dwelling to be set light to with them in it…regardless of a person’s ethnicity. In both aspects, it wasn’t her opinion that was at fault; she, like most nasty people, could have kept her vitriol in her head. But she chose to spout it to others instead, and the charge was INCITING RACIAL HATRED.
As for Parker, having 24 sentences, unless they were of a similar nature (violence/assault etc) will not be a sentencing factor. If he does it again however….
This is where you comment but have no clue, every single offence he has got is for violence and assault. He’s still on a suspended sentence. Now they have extended it. There is no justice anymore. Try typing his name in the search bar and you will see just how many times he’s been on this page.
How many offences does one have to have before they
are banged up!
24 offences and still free to roam
Bring back the Birch.
What a horrible excuse for a human being. Obviously has temper and attitude against women problems and needs to seek help. Mind you if we didn’t have such a feeble and usually bizarre judgement decisions he should by rights be attending anger management sessions at “His Majesties Pleasure!”
If you don’t suffer any consequences after such a cowardly act then why would you stop yourself from doing it again? 24 previous offences and still not sent to prison? Really??
