A suspended sentence has been handed down to a man who left 2 victims injured during separate assaults on Ryde’s Well Street.
John Ryan, 36, of Well Street in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court last Thursday (1st May) having admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding at a previous hearing.
As first reported by Island Echo, on the morning of 20th May 2023 emergency services were called to Well Street, near the junction with Prince Street – with multiple police units rushing to the scene, alongside an ambulance and enhanced care paramedic.
It had been reported that a physical altercation between Ryan and 2 separate people had occurred. Ryan caused injuries to both of his victims.
A cordon around the crime scene was erected, with officers initially detaining Ryan under the Mental Health Act.
Sentencing the 36-year-old, Recorder Malcolm Gibney handed Ryan a 15 month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation days.
Suspended sentence Lol,
W.T.F does someone have to do to get banged up.
2 assaults in my eyes = imprisonment, maybe
it’s about time the country built more prisons.
Mental health again I’m wetting myself laughing
How do you determine psychosis due to mental health, psychosis induced by drug use or just an out of control yob if you’re not a clinical psychiatrist?
This is why crime is never solved because they just continue to get away with it with a slap on the wrists and don’t do it again. Tougher sentences are needed if we are to see any real change. They just walk away laughing. Our justice system is a joke
