A 60-year-old woman has been handed a suspended prison sentence after Police discovered £85,000 worth of cannabis at her address in Ryde.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police carried out a raid at a property on Cross Street, Ryde on 22nd May last year. Officers discovered a sophisticated setup with dozens of cannabis plants growing, as well as already cultivated cannabis – a Class B drug.
Forensic officers were called in to document the massive haul and Police spent several hours at the address as they worked to dismantle the cannabis factory.
Mary Richardson, then 59, was arrested alongside a 57-year-old man on suspicion of being concerned in the production of Class B drugs. No charges were brought against the male, however.
Appearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this week, Mary Richardson was handed a 2-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
The court heard that Richardson had been offered money to allow the use of her property as a cannabis factory. The identity of that person is unknown.
It’s no longer any use posting about the sentence…. Crime DOES pay!
To light a sentence absolutely shameful to be honest
most people will never have that much money working hard for a living

hardly a deterrent – mind you £85k’s worth is gonna hurt losing it!
£85k she shouldn’t have had
What the hell has anyone got to do to get sent to prison on this pathetic island? It really is time that these utterly incompetent magistrates were removed from office and imprisoned themselves. They are a disgrace to the community.
This was heard at the Crown Court so would have been in front of a Judge
Magistrates, judges, whatever. We are not being properly protected by any of them when they fail to imprison these scum bags.
Quite agree Paul. If Putin was tried for war crimes in front of our magistrates he’d only end up with suspended sentence, a few hours community service and a victim surcharge.
This is getting boring now. Suspended sentences one after another.
Why are these dregs not put away to show selling drugs does not pay.
Surely there must be some athority overseeing these moronic judges and magistrates.
Only for personal use.
SUSPENDED WTF ??????????
It makes me laugh suspended, what sob story did she give
They should only suspend it if she identifies the person involved.
I doubt if the electricity was paid for and also that she made money.
Proceeds of crime should be confiscated.
Suppose she will be sweeping the Rotten streets here
It is becoming The Isle of Shite now
That’s what I call Gangsta Granny.
Pablo Escobar would have got a suspended sentence and unpaid work under the Island Magistrates.
Ryde has gone to pot.
So has the courts by the sound of it.
Courts in Saudi Arabia would give her 10 years in Parkhurst and and damm good public whipping daily outside Ryde old town hall for overners to enjoy, great tourist attraction, make the Isle of Wight great again.
She would not do it again.
Where has the 85Ks worth of product gone? Are the judges and legal system smoking it? Suspended sentence my arse, what an intolerable insult to the ordinary law abiding citizen.
When you think of people sent down over absolute trivia ie non payment of tv licence etc.
Surely this can be put before someone with intelligence higher up the justice system?
Before getting all worked up, fact check the facts, you don’t know from your armchair if the police or reporters added and extra 0 as a typo.
Unless you saw 85k work of cannabis then don’t believe what your told
If you know somthing more, do please tell….
Oh, maybe you cant without incriminating yourself?
To all those whinging about weak sentences THINK WHY.
It is because our prisons are crammed full of the worlds most vile now as well as our own. So we cannot give meaningful sentences to anyone unless they are worse than the imported vile as so many fill our land and prisons.
The media cannot tell it how it is anymore but use YOUR eyes and brain.
It is not coincidence since we have an unannounced’open door, policy
Valid point
I don’t bloody believe it !!
You are more likely to get a prison sentence for pilfering a small packet of Rizla. Maybe the Judge has his pot head on.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary. How does your garden grow? Ooh, nicely thanks, but as I am a sixty year old woman sweet Fanny Adams can touch me, except the lightest of sentences. The drug driver who smokes the weed and mows down a family will most certainly go to prison. Same thing as far as I see it
85K lol, don’t believe a word of it
