A 58-year-old woman from the Isle of Wight, who nearly flipped her Honda whilst more than 4x the drink drive limit, has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Amanda Stables, of Brook Road in Chessell, previously admitted drink driving at an Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court hearing back in December. On that occasion, the case was adjourned so that a pre-sentence report could be compiled.
At the sentencing hearing last week (Friday 4th April), prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that at around 17:00 on 26th November, a member of the public saw Stables driving her Honda Jazz on the main road between Shorwell and Brighstone.
The court heard how the driver witnessed Stables career into a verge and go onto 2 wheels with the witness worried she was about to flip the car.
Stables was followed through Shorwell and Limerstone – where she collided with another verge – and was seen driving at around 15mph.
When Police arrived, Stables completed a roadside breath which recorded a reading of 142 – some 4x the legal limit.
Defending Stables, who was of previous good character, Oscar Vincent, said his client used alcohol to self-medicate during an extended period in which she suffered several family bereavements. He also added that, since the incident, Stables had taken steps to address her issues with Inclusion.
At a previous hearing, Stables was warned that the offence – and her high alcohol level reading – carried a starting point of 12 weeks in custody.
After lengthy deliberations, Magistrates handed the 58-year-old an 8-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. She was handed a 36-month driving ban and ordered to pay £85 costs and £154 surcharge fee.
Absolutely disgusting Oscar Vincent is a waste of space! Family bereavements, we all have our problems but don’t act like an absolute idiot. Bet she still drives as the law is an absolute disgrace, I’m fed up reading about these criminals that get off!!!
So am I, law no longer exists in this country.
4 times over the limit and such a lenient sentence.
I feel sorry for the Police they do the hardwork to
catch these uneducated Numpty’s and then they
get let off Scott free!.
Such a low fine for such a serious crime.
for once I agree with you…
she “was warned that the offence – and her high alcohol level reading – carried a starting point of 12 weeks in custody”
& then gets only 8 weeks,.. suspended !!!
so that wasn’t a starting point then….
The vehicle should seized and either scrapped or sold on with proceeds spent on traffic policing.
Great idea.
The island needs more traffic Police to educate the
Numpty’s right from wrong.
(Sadly once a Numpty always a Numpty)
Camp Hill prison should be re-opened for drink, drug
drivers and speeding Numpty’s and Numpty’s who drive
whilst using their phones.
It will be full by the end of the year.
and then you go and spoil it with another of your ridiculously unrealistic ideas
You give female drivers a bad name you silly old cow
If a 58 year old in 2025 does not know
drink driving is WRONG
They need locking up and throw away the key!
How interesting that you castigate the woman for giving female drivers a bad name, then use ‘old’ and ‘cow’ as derogatory words. Is being old or a cow worthy of censure- or are you intentionally giving these conditions a bad name perhaps?
Mooooo mooooo the silly cow
