23 primary schools from across the Isle of Wight have worked together to create a stunning poppy display, which has gone on show at Quay Arts in Newport.
The display was officially launched on Saturday (6th November) and will remain in situ over the next couple of weeks, as the country comes together to remember those who paid the ultimate price.
Bob Seely MP, Councillor Debbie Andre, Ian Ward (President of the RMA) and Councillor Ian Dore (Military Champion) were all present at the launch.
A poem was read out by the oldest member of the Royal Marines Association, 89-year-old Tom Bodman. A short service was then conducted by Rev’d Tony Richards with a final blessing to all assembled.
Terry Goodwin, Branch Secretary of the Royal Marines Association, says:
“The quality, hard work and thought the children put into the display warms the cockles of your heart. It will not only make you smile it will make your heart smile.
“The design and construction was completed by the Creative Industries department at the Isle of Wight College, who have produced an impressive design”.
