All Saturday’s Wessex League games involving Isle of Wight teams have been postponed due to the uncertainty caused by Storm Dennis.
In a statement issued last night, the Wessex League said:
“Having taken soundings from the clubs involved, looking at the latest ferry information and reading the weather forecast, the league has taken the common sense decision to postpone the three games involving Island teams (on Saturday, February 15)’.
The following games have been called off:
- Brockenhurst v Cowes Sports
- Newport v Bemerton
- Verwood v East Cowes
Apart from the pitch conditions, the main concern is that ferries will be suspended. This would prevent teams getting back across the Solent throughout the evening, as the winds are not expected to abate until late Sunday morning.
