A woman who brazenly walked into Tesco Express and stole 2 bottles of wine has been fined £120 for her crime – and ordered to pay the supermarket compensation.
38-year-old Nina Hoskins, of Green Street in Ryde, appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday charged with 1 count of theft from a shop.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that Hoskins – accompanied by a male – walked into Tesco Express on Lake Hill, Lake on the afternoon of 16th August this year. She went straight to the chilled section and took 2 bottles of wine – as did the male she was with.
CCTV captured the offence and Hoskins was identified by a PCSO who reviewed the footage.
The court heard that Hoskins was last before Magistrates in January 2022 for theft. She was handed a 12-month conditional discharge.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client did the act as a ‘spur of the moment thing’ after she lapsed into drug taking. Mr Arnett said that Hoskins is now on a daily prescription and is being supported by Inclusion. She receives £300 a fortnight on Universal Credit and has secured accommodation at Fellowship House in Ryde.
Magistrates fined Hoskins £120 and ordered her to pay £85 costs, a £48 surcharge and £15.50 compensation.
Some of us have to graft 7 days a week, get no universal credit,
yet the persons receiving help from the state still steal.
Life is a funny old game, it makes me wonder whether it is worth
grafting or become a benefit B’um.

Could keep 11000 women like this in benefits like that for an entire year. It’d still come out as less than the amount Tory Lord Michelle Mone has taken (we had to pay millions more to store and burn the tat she delivered as well).

Pay for it like everyone else has to. Who does this woman and her male friend think they are.
Her benefits will pay the fines, although she’ll be out of pocket for a while, shame, NOT!
If she’s been doing this for years, she still comes out in top. If she can work out how to steal, she can work. Stop her benefits.
Do they have to pay rent etc at Fellowship House. She’s being given £600 a month pocket money!!

I hate it when perfectly capable people steal and think that they’re well within their rights to do so. How flipping dare they when we all work to pay our rent and bills with nothing much to spare certainly not enough for two bottles of wine. Yes, they’re just prolonging her agony as she’ll re offend time and time again, no goals to aim for if it’s given to her on a plate. Make her work and pay some back
