Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club unveiled their brand new McClelland Golf Studio earlier this week.
The state-of-the-art golf simulator that will allow members to play some of the world’s top golf courses, and give Club Professional, Peter Hammond, the opportunity to hold custom fitting sessions and provide year-round coaching, regardless of the weather.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Margaret McClelland, who was then invited to strike the first ball.
Margaret, the Club’s longest-serving playing member, having been a member for over 70 years, has a life-long affiliation with the Club.
Her father, John, became a member in 1933. His wife, Hannah, also took a keen interest in the game and, between them, they ensured their children, Malcolm and Margaret shared their passion.
John McClelland took up the mantle of Club Captain in 1952, with Malcolm following in his father’s footsteps in 1972.
Malcolm’s son, James, has been a member for over 43 years and it is hoped that his children will continue to keep the McClelland name synonymous with the Club for years to come.
