A sporting accident has seen the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance deployed to Cowes this evening (Thursday).
It was around 19:00 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service responded to an incident at the Isle of Wight Community Club.
Island Echo is told that 2 players participating in a Cowes Cricket Club v Vestas 20/20 cricket match have collided together, leading to serious head injuries.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down at the playing field as flying medics rush to assist in the efforts to treat the players involved.
UPDATE @ 20:13 – The air ambulance has relocated from Isle of Wight Community Club to the helipad at St Mary’s Hospital, as the injured parties are transferred to hospital by land.
UPDATE @ 20:42 – The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, which is now based out of Southampton Airport, has been stood down from the incident and has returned to base.
The individuals involved have not required transfer to the mainland.
