Spinlock, who normally produce the team’s personal flotation equipment, are using their automated cutting table to help speed up the process and enable INEOS to produce more face shields than initially planned.
INEOS TEAM UK Skipper and Team Principal Sir Ben Ainslie has said:
“The entire INEOS family feels it is everyone’s responsibility to be hands on in this crisis by deploying resource and expertise to support the frontline where best we can. The work INEOS, for example, are doing in producing millions of bottles of hand sanitisers across Europe and distributing them free-of-charge to frontline staff has been inspiring to see.
“We have a lot of expertise in manufacturing and production and we therefore felt the best way for us to support was the production of PPE face shields which will go direct, free-of-charge, to frontline staff in the team’s local area.
“Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz Applied Science has been fantastic in enabling us to increase our production of these face shields and I wanted to extend my deepest thanks to them for all their invaluable support”.
Spinlock CEO Chris Hill adds:
“After learning our friends at INEOS TEAM UK were producing PPE face shields at their Portsmouth HQ, cutting the plastic face shield film by hand, Spinlock were keen to help and offer the services of our 7m laser cutting table and key staff at our Cowes production facility to speed up the process.
“Edina Boback who manages compliance in the build of our lifejackets and Kitti Zsibai our lead inflatables welder and coach were both keen and ideal candidates to come into our currently closed production facility to manage the process. Taking delivery of 50 metres of clear PET film and after making some test cuts, 1000 shields have been produced in single day and another 5000 will be completed by early next week.”
