Police swooped on a Mercedes with a suspected impaired driver at the wheel in Newport late last night (Saturday), uncovering a terrifying spiked weapon inside the vehicle.
The dramatic stop took place on the Fairlee Road link road coming off the dual carriageway at around 22:30, after officers suspected the driver was under the influence of drink or drugs.
The driver was pulled out of the car and cuffed, before officers commenced a search of the silver CLK.
It was during this search that a sinister black-handled item with sharp spikes protruding from it was discovered and seized.
A 57-year-old man from Newport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and possession of an offensive weapon.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Glad he was stopped
Well done again by our Police. Why is someone who is old enough to know better driving around with a lethal weapon in his car.
I guess other charges will follow as this is not normal behaviour That could easily kill someone.
The Police are doing a grand job catching
these villains.
Whilst I think he is obviously an idiot and I couldn’t personally justify carrying any kind of weapon, he may be reacting to what’s going on around him – plenty of others carrying weapons so he may feel he needs to in case he has to defend himself. I don’t know, maybe it’s flawed logic but just a thought. Glad he was stopped. the more of this kind of thing the police achieve the better and the more they go up in my estimations for sure.
That is one seriously lame comment
thanks, i did say it may be flawed logic!
