Southampton Legends are set to return to the Isle of Wight to face an Island Legends squad in a charity football spectacular, jointly hosted by Newport I.W. and Cowes Sports FC.
Following the huge success of the fixture 2 years ago, organisers have confirmed the much-anticipated return of the Legends match, once again bringing together former professional stars and Island favourites for an evening of football in support of good causes.
The game will take place on Friday 8th May, with a 19:30 kick-off, and is being jointly hosted by Newport I.W. and Cowes Sports FC.
Fans can look forward to a strong Island Legends line-up, including Garry Rowett, Islander Lee Bradbury, and popular local favourites Andy Butler, Simon Butler and Mick Butler. They will be joined by Adam Millar, Iain Seabrook, Darren Powell, Martyn Raggett and Charlie Smeeton, among others.
The Southampton Legends will also arrive with an eye-catching squad, including former England, Liverpool and Saints striker Rickie Lambert, who will be travelling from Liverpool. He will be joined by fan favourites Matt Oakley and Jo Tessem. Adding a local connection, Isle of Wight-born Aaron Martin is also confirmed to feature.
3 familiar faces will return to the dugout for the Island Legends, with John Linington, Roger McCormack and Steve Brougham taking charge.
Tickets are priced the same as the previous event, with adults £10 and OAPs and under-16s £5. Tickets will be available online via both clubs’ websites, as well as through QR codes displayed on posters at the ground and across the local community.
Newport chairman John Davies said:
“We are extremely grateful to everyone for pulling together to make this happen. Despite being based in Dubai, Jamie Bray is once again playing his part in helping to organise the Southampton Legends team and supporting the event behind the scenes. Cowes Sports have also stepped up once again, bringing their energy and support to help take this event to the next level.
“We are also very grateful to Steve Woodward and the rest of the Cowes committee for picking up where Ian Lee left off and helping us continue to push this event forward.”
A number of commercial opportunities are also available around the event, and anyone interested in getting involved, including through sponsorship, is encouraged to contact John Davies at [email protected].
More player announcements will be made over the coming months, with supporters encouraged to follow both clubs on social media for the latest updates.
Building on the success of the last fixture, organisers are expecting another large crowd, with the match once again set to bring together football fans, families and the wider community in celebration of the Isle of Wight’s sporting heritage.
