An 18-year-old male caught in possession of cannabis told Magistrates this week that he has stopped smoking and “needs to get off this s**t”.
Lennon Richman, 18, of Main Road, Havenstreet, admitted possession of the Class B controlled drug on Tuesday (19th August) after a stop and search in Ryde on 28th June this year.
Richman, who expressively represented himself in court, was found to be carrying a small amount of cannabis in a black pot.
He addressed the bench as his ‘mates’, apologising for his behaviour and stating that he is done with drug use and knows he needs to change.
Richman told the court:
“Sorry about this mate, I’m trying to change my ways.
“I have stopped smoking for a week now, really trying to change myself, stop smoking this s**t now need to change my ways.”
The 18-year-old, with no previous convictions, was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £26 surcharge.
Maybe he does want to come off drugs if so he might need support?

Is it really worth wasting the Court’s time with a little bit of personal use? Whatever happened to discretion? Must have been a very slow day at the CPS. Presumably there wasn’t anybody using a few hurty words on antisocial media to persecute and get locked up for 30 odd months. And what’s this so-called ‘surcharge’? If it’s the so-called ‘victim surcharge’ then I’ve got news for the Court: there’s no victim and levying such a surcharge is tantamount to fraud.
