Sophie Bearsdall has won the Isle of Wight’s first gold medal of the Orkney 2025 Island games, with our Ladies’ golf team also taking gold.
Golfer Sophie narrowly beat silver medallist Emma Lindman from Aland by a single stroke in the Ladies Individual event.
Sienna Mosquera of Bermuda took bronze – 4 strokes behind Sophie.
Sophie finished her final round with a score of 71 – 2 strokes ahead of Ms Lindman to clinch her gold medal.
In the team event, the Isle of Wight beat silver medallists Gotland by a margin of 29 strokes, with host island Orkney bagging bronze.
The Isle of Wight Ladies’ Golf team are: Sophie Beardsall, Lucy Burke, Caroline Johnson and Sammi Keen.
The double gold medal win has propelled the Isle of Wight from 6 places from 16th to 10th in the Orkney 2025 medals table.
The Isle of Wight also has a chance of gaining podium places in the Men’s Individual Golf with Nathaniel Riddett in 4th place – 1 stroke off Orkney’s Steven Rendall in the bronze medal place at the start of the final round. A second Isle of Wight golfer – Christopher Hayward – started the day in 6th place, 4 strokes behind Rendall.
Expect further success for the Isle of Wight with 3 almost certain gold medals in the sailing events with Arthur Farley leading in ICLA 7, Oliver Mayo in ICLA 6 and the Isle of Wight (also including Oliver Smith and Harry White) comfortably in front in the team event.
