SOLENT TRAVEL INFORMATION

bestivaltravel400A number of additional sailings have been put in place and amendments have been made for cross-Solent ferry travel as thousands of revellers head to one of the UK’s hottest music festivals, Bestival, which starts tomorrow (Thursday).

WIGHTLINK

Those traveling by car on Wightlink’s Portsmouth-Fishbourne route on Thursday are advised not to arrive at the Gunwharf terminal more than 30 minutes prior to their booked departure, the same applying on Monday for the return crossing. This also applies to the firm’s Lymington-Yarmouth ferry service.

Vehicles using the Fishbourne route will be directed to the Bestival site using the Blue route which approaches the campsite via Binstead and Havenstreet.

For those travelling by foot, the cross-Solent operator advise at least 15 minutes is allowed for connections. Regular foot passengers who possess a season or multilink ticket will be treated as reserved passengers, however must arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of their chosen crossing time.

An additional 1700 spaces have been made available on Wightlink’s Portsmouth-Ryde Pier Head service.

RED FUNNEL

Additional ferry crossings have been put in place for Bestival during peak periods on Thursday, Friday, Sunday night and for those returning on Monday. You can view Red Funnel’s timetable here: http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/ferry-travel/passenger-vehicle-ferry-service/timetable/.

Red Funnel’s hi-speed Red Jet service will be running a special timetable with additional sailings on Thursday, Friday and Monday. A full timetable can be found at http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/ferry-travel/red-jet-hi-speed-service/timetable/.

HOVERTRAVEL

Hovertravel, the fastest way to cross the Solent, will be operating a normal timetable. Further flights have been scheduled in and, should the need arise, a shuttle service will be introduced on Thursday, Friday and Monday.

Regular travelers who posses a prepaid card (such as the Gold card) will be subject to the normal festival event priority boarding system, as used in previous years.
