No Man’s Fort and Spitbank Fort – 2 of the 3 Palmerston forts located in the middle of the Solent – have sold at auction for more than £1million each. Each fort was listed for auction with Savills after several failed attempts to sell them on the open market over the past 2 years. A former hotel, No Man’s Fort boasts 23 bedrooms and is set out across a whopping 99,000sq ft. At auction yesterday (Tuesday) it fetched £1,120,000. Meanwhile, Spitbank Fort -much smaller at ‘just’ 33,000sq ft – with 9 bedrooms, a swimming pool and wine cave, sold for £1,010,000. Despite being situated between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, each fort has its own water supply, generators and sewage treatment plants. Both have planning permission to be converted into private houses – with far-reaching views down The Solent in both directions. It was thought prior to the auction that there would be global interest from multiple buyer types – but it is unknown at this stage who successfully bid on each fort, and whether the forts went to the same buyer.

I’m very surprised they let them go fo so little.
Cheaper than Bibby Stockholm and at least it has the benefit of being isolated….

You are quite right Colin but someone a while ago decided to abbreviate the name. I cannot think why.
