The Isle of Wight’s very own board game cafe is set to reopen with a brand new look and even more games today (Saturday).
The owners of Snacks and Ladders (formerly known as Board) Chris and Karen Longhurst have baked their way through all 3 lockdowns to keep the business going, and to reopen with a new name, bigger and better than before.
The popular venue on Newport’s St James’ Street plays host to over 400 board games, a whole host of food and drink, and a licensed bar. After its opening in 2019, the cafe proved extremely popular with locals seeking an alternative to video games and the local pub.
Providing a family-friendly atmosphere, the cafe has grown from strength to strength and opened its doors to all. Regular social meetings are held at Snacks and Ladders for those hoping to make new friends, and the cafe is a designated ‘Safe Haven’ for those who are vulnerable or in need of special assistance.
Snacks and Ladders isn’t just for humans either, dogs are welcome too. Dog treats, blankets, and dog-friendly ice cream are all available to make hounds feel at home.

Traditional games like Monopoly, Scrabble, and of course Snakes & Ladders sit alongside modern classics like Catan, Pandemic, and Ticket to Ride, along with a whole host of new and unusual games are available to play for the price of £2 per person for the first hour, and £1 per hour thereafter.
Available for refreshment are a selection of locally baked cakes, snack bowls to graze on, freshly made toasted paninis, pizzas, and burgers, plus locally blended teas and roasted coffees. There’s also a cocktail menu for those feeling spritely.
