UPDATED: Firefighters have this afternoon (Friday) extinguished a car fire on Coppins Bridge, Newport.
The red Volkswagen Beetle is understood to have started to smoke heavily, filling the cabin with thick smoke forcing the driver to pull the vehicle over onto a grassed area.
One appliance from Newport Fire Station has attended the scene and has extinguished the small fire.
Two woman inside the vehicle at the time of the incident have escaped injury.
