Six daring fundraisers have abseiled 100 metres down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower, raising more than £3,700 for Island-based Sporting Opportunities.
Deborah, Gillian, Dave, Steve, Hayley and Lesley travelled across the Solent to take on the nerve-racking challenge on Saturday 25th July.
Each stepped over the edge of the landmark before descending around 330ft, with spectacular views across Portsmouth Harbour and towards the Isle of Wight along the way.
Their efforts generated an impressive £3,778.34 for Sporting Opportunities, thanks to donations from friends, family and supporters.
The organisation provides inclusive sports and activity sessions for people of all abilities, with the money helping to support its ongoing work and enable more people to enjoy active lifestyles.
Sporting Opportunities has thanked the 6 abseilers for their courage and determination, as well as everyone who donated, shared the fundraising appeal or supported the challenge.
Thanks have also been extended to the Spinnaker Tower team for overseeing the abseil and to Wightlink for assisting with cross-Solent travel.
Following the success of the fundraiser, the organisation is encouraging others to consider taking on their own challenges to support its work.
