Police cordoned off several streets in Shanklin during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) amid fears an individual had been seriously assaulted.
An extensive crime scene was established on Regent Street, Carlton Road and Atherley Road at just before 02:00 when Police on patrol came across a 29-year-old man with an injury to his foot.
Additional resources descended on the area with initial enquiries suggesting an assault had occurred.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service deployed resources to the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that despite the initial fears of an assault, it was soon established that this was not the case.
No assault had taken place, but criminal damage had been caused to a property on Atherley Road.
Island Echo is told that an individual was walking up and down the road and shouting from 01:20 onwards.
Police say that no arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
