Bottom-of-the-table Carisbrooke United had Newport striker Joe Butcher playing in central defence and used defender, Boyd Gardine, as goalkeeper, due to an injury to regular ‘keeper Christian White.
Shanklin opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through a magnificent 25-yard shot from their captain, Iain Seabrook. (1-0)
Shanklin continued to pepper the Carisbrooke goal with attempts from both Finley Lloyd and Ji Nash that went high and wide. Carisbrooke battled gamely and had a few good chances themselves with Ford Wilson and Matt Coopey both shooting wide.

Pete Wilson scored Shanklin’s first 2nd-half goal in the 47th minute, expertly placing his 10-yard strike inside the far post beyond the reach of Carisbrooke’s substitute ‘keeper. (0-2)
The next goal was a moment of comedy, when Newport striker, Joe Butcher, playing as a makeshift defender, shot the ball into the back of his own side’s net from the middle of the penalty area. (0-3)
James Turner than added a fourth for the away side in the 84th minute. (0-4)
