54 ladies took part in Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club’s Ladies’ Open on Friday 25th June.
Of the 18 teams competing, 13 had made an early Solent crossing to play in the annual Bowmaker Competition.
It was a combined team from Blackmoor and St. Georges Hill, Sheila Purvis, Vi Ricketts and Channy Sims who took the first prize with 76 points ahead of Di Clark, Paula Burke and Sheila Richard from Freshwater with 75 points and Rose Green, Nicola Moreton and Judith Lazelle from Ryde Golf Club coming third with 73 points.
2 days later, on Sunday 27th, the club hosted their Mixed Open.
12 teams from mainland and Island clubs, together with 22 teams from Shanklin and Sandown competed in a 4-Ball-Better-Ball Stableford Competition.
Colin and Jill Randell from Ferndown and The Burley took first place with 42 points with Jeremy and Caroline Williams from Richmond and Roehampton second on 41 points. Tony and Jenny Hoskins from Lee-on-the-Solent came third on 39.
The home winners were Bill Foss and Connie Huntington with 45 points winning on countback from David Ames and Amanda Wade. Vic James and Ronne Hirst finished third with 44 points.
