The annual Joint Captains’ Am-Am competition at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club proved a great success on Sunday (6th July), with 22 teams enjoying a fun and competitive day on the fairways.
Adding to the light-hearted atmosphere, Ladies’ Captain Lorrie Hawkins was seen commandeering a buggy to hand out drinks and snacks to players mid-round — a gesture warmly received by all. Meanwhile, Wight Whippys kept everyone cool with complimentary ice creams, courtesy of the Captains.
At the end of play, the best Mixed team and overall winners were Ruth Graves, Connie Huntington and Bev and Walter Lowrie with an impressive 141 points. The best Men’s team, and runners-up overall, were Paul Cock, Peter Long, James Lucy and John Sedgeley with 133 points.
The day raised £751 for the Captains’ chosen charity, Care in the Garden.
Before the prize giving, long-standing member and past Captain Terry Jarman made a special presentation to Club Professional Peter Hammond, recognising his remarkable 35 years of dedicated service with the gift of a watch.
