Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club has hosted a busy weekend of competitions, with golfers from across the Isle of Wight and the mainland taking part in the annual Ladies’ Open and Mixed Open events.
On Friday (27th June), the Club held its Ladies’ Open, which was played as a Bowmaker competition. First prize went to Tracey Dorr, Gerry Melling and Cheryl Bottegar from Barton on Sea with 97 points. They finished ahead of Helen Whittaker, Lorraine Swallow and Yas Wright from Westridge who scored 93 points.
Two days later, on Sunday (29th June), Shanklin & Sandown welcomed teams for its Mixed Open. Mainland and Isle of Wight clubs, alongside home players, competed in a 4-Ball-Better-Ball Stableford competition.

The away winners were Lynne and Leon Backshall from Ryde with 44 points, taking the prize on countback from Pippa Walker and Peter Barrett from Roehampton. Home winners were Ladies’ Captain Lorrie Hawkins and her husband Paul, who secured victory with 48 points.
