Shanklin Ladies edged a thrilling encounter against Winchester City Flyers Reserves on Sunday (2nd November) in a game packed with goals, drama, and end-to-end action.
Winchester struck first with a long-range effort after Shanklin failed to close down the shooter. (0–1)
The home side responded swiftly when Holly Stephan’s pinpoint free kick found Gemma Woodford, who rose highest to head home and level the score. (1–1)
Moments later, Shanklin goalkeeper Ayisha Keyes produced a fine save from distance, only for the rebound to fall kindly for the visitors to restore their lead. (1–2)
Shanklin pressed forward again, and Thea Broadhead coolly finished past the advancing keeper after being set up by Woodford to make it all square once more. (2–2)
In the 27th minute, Tilly Yardley’s corner was perfectly delivered and Woodford was again on hand to nod in at the near post to give Shanklin the lead for the first time. (3–2)
An injury to Daniela Melninkaite saw 16-year-old Eden Szawiel come on for her senior debut before the break.

Shanklin started the second half brightly, and Woodford completed her hat trick with a thumping finish from another superb Stephan free kick. (4–2)
Winchester refused to fold, hitting back with a powerful long-range strike into the top corner. (4–3)
The visitors then drew level in the 72nd minute following another quick counter-attack. (4–4)
Just when it looked as though the points would be shared, Shanklin produced the winner. In the 84th minute, Woodford turned provider, setting up Broadhead, who calmly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to seal the win. (5–4)
