On Sunday 17th October Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club saw the installation of their new Club and section Captains for the 2021/22 season.
Before formalities began, outgoing Captains, Shawn Ford and Hazel Smith, presented their chosen charity, Mountbatten, with a cheque for £7,689.94, the sum raised throughout their year by the Club.
Club Professional, Peter Hammond, then invited all 4 incoming Captains to drive using a very antiquated wooden driver and, all 4, Bill Foss (Club Captain), Connie Huntington (Ladies’ Captain), Neil Fawcett (Senior’s Captain) and Charlie Hatch (Junior’s Captain) did so admirably.
Members then took to the course for the hotly contested Drive-In Am-Am competition.
Taking the honours in the Men’s section, and winning overall with 131 points on countback, were Chris Beard, James Clemens, Phil Mew and Will Mew.
Winners of the Mixed section were Chris Gould, Sean Millward, Linda Piche and Brian Price with 119 points.
For the Ladies the winners were Fran Cole, Anna Garriock, Alix Goddard and Christine O’Brien with 116 points.
Nearest the pin on the 9th for the men was won by Neil Fawcett and, for the ladies, Lucy Burke.
After the competition the Captains invited all members into the Clubhouse to enjoy a wrap and chips with their compliments. They also revealed their chosen charity for the coming year as the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
