SHADEMAKERS TO MAKE CARNIVAL RETURN AT NEWPORT’S ILLUMINATED CARNIVAL TOMORROW

Shademakers will mark their return during their first carnival appearance of the season at Newport’s Illuminated Carnival tomorrow night (Thursday). All are invited along to the county town’s Illuminated Carnival, which is set to move off from South Street at 21:00. The procession will cascade around town before finishing on Newport Quay. There will be the usual entrants of Royalty floats from around the Island, community floats, marching bands, samba bands, tractors, cars, groups, and perhaps most importantly, Shademakers – as seen at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in London back in 2022. Newport Carnival as pulled out all the stops this year after a tricky start to the year. While inspecting their float it soon became clear that new axles, wheels, tyres, breaks and lines were needed to safely go ahead with their 2024 carnival season. This came at a cost of over £2,500 – so every penny in the bucket will really help to recuperate some of the costs associated with futureproofing their float for years to come.
