A registered sex offender from Ryde who failed to declare a new credit card to Police within 3 days has been fined £80 by the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
Peter Bains, 65, of West Street in Ryde, appeared before the court on Tuesday morning charged with failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, explained to the bench that Bains had been jailed in 2019 for possessing indecent images of children. He was made subject to a 10-year Sex Offender Register requirement, part of which includes declaring any bank accounts and credit cards.
It was on 4th February that Bains attended Newport Police Station for his yearly registration. At the station, he did disclose his credit card, which had been received in September 2021. The notification requirements mean Bains should have declared it to the authorities within 3 days.
Defending, James Osborne said his client had mental health issues that meant he simply forgot to register the card. He told the court that the card had been taken out to pay for furniture and to tax a vehicle.
Magistrates said that they accepted it was a mistake and fined Peter Bains £80, as well as ordering him to pay £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
And why the hell is he walking the streets and enjoying freedom?. Put him in jail and throw away the key or in my view bring back capital punishment.
Probably paid the fine on his credit card.
