Seven people have been rescued – two suffering from hypothermia – after the fishing vessel they were travelling on sunk in the Needles channel this afternoon (Saturday).
Yarmouth RNLI All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to launch shortly after 15:00 having been alerted to a boat taking on water to the east of Shingles Bank – a report that also prompted the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent to be scrambled to the area.
Upon arrival of lifeboat crews, it was discovered that all seven casualties had been picked up by a passing boat – Osprey- that spotted the incident unfolding.
The fishing boat, Dulce T, which has completely sunk, left a trail of debris floating on the surface which has now been collected by Yarmouth RNLI.
The casualties were taken to Keyhaven by Yarmouth RNLI where they were met by Lymington Coastguard.
