TWO TRAPPED IN SERIOUS RTC IN ROOKLEY

Emergency services are attending a serious RTC in Rookley this lunchtime, which has trapped two people.

The incident, which has occurred 100yards from the junction with Highwood Lane, has involved two vehicles colliding on a right hand bend towards Blackwater.

Fire crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have within the last few minutes freed a second person the wreckage of one of the vehicles, which has left the carriageway and ploughed into trees lining the road. One person has already been freed and transferred to St Mary’s Hospital.

The driver on the second vehicle involved, believed to be an older gentleman, has escaped any serious injury and is assisting Police with their enquiries.

The main Rookley to Blackwater road is closed at the junction with Highwood Lane, with traffic being diverted through Whitecroft and into Carisbrooke.

Route 3 buses are being diverted via Merstone.

UPDATE @ 14:00 – The main Rookley to Blackwater road has now reopened and Route 3 buses have resumed a normal service.
