A one-way system is about to come into force on a section of Ventnor Esplanade as part of ongoing repair works to a retaining wall.
A section of the carriageway, between the Spyglass Inn and La Falaise Car Park at the bottom of Bath Road, will be closed to motorists travelling from the bottom of Bath Road to the Esplanade (northbound).
Traffic travelling from the Eastern end of the Esplanade will be able to travel up the hill towards the car park and Bath Road as normal.
The road has been closed in both directions for this past week as part of the ongoing works. The one-way system shall come into operation tomorrow (Saturday).
The duration for the one-way system has not been published, however, the initial works are expected to last until 9th April.
Business and premises that are able to do so under the government’s COVID restrictions along the Esplanade remain open for business.
I know there is a logical reason for the traffic restriction, but WHY don’t they make the Esplanade route one-way permanently.
The road up at the Royal Hotel end is so narrow and steep, and visibility is very limited in places.
Because you can’t educate pork…

What you are suggesting would make no sense whatsoever. Travel between both ends is vital and it hardly an area of extreme traffic. What you are suggesting is implausible.
