It was a case of deja vu for the crew of Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat last night (Wednesday) when they launched into the night to assist a vessel in difficulty – the same vessel they launched to on Saturday night.
The All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at around 21:45 to once again assist the 39ft, 17t sailing yacht ‘Rosalyn’ with 3 crew onboard.
It was reported that the yacht’s engine had failed 2.2 nautical miles South East of Bembridge having set off for South Wales from Portsmouth earlier in the day. As they headed towards St Catherine’s Point the wind speed increased and the crew became concerned.
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ – a Tamar-class lifeboat – was on scene by 21:48 and quickly established a tow to Bembridge Harbour, where Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team met the casualty vessel.
Having successfully berthed Rosalyn on the Visitors Pontoon by 23:00, the Alfred Albert Williams returned to the boathouse and was recovered by just after 23:00.
