SEARCH FOR MISSING TOURIST WITH DEMENTIA

policehelicopterFOUND: A search is underway this evening (Wednesday) for a missing 79-year-old tourist who has gone missing from Osborne House in East Cowes.

Brian Thomas was visiting the historic attraction with his wife at lunchtime today when the gentleman, who is suffering from the early stages of dementia, went missing. His wife visited the toilet for a short period and when she returned to the cafe her husband had gone.

The worried woman searched for over 4 hours before notifying Police, who have this evening launched the National Police Air Support helicopter to conduct an aerial search of the area alongside ground units.

Mr Thomas is described as 6ft 2″ tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a grey jacket, blue jeans and scruffy boots.

Unfortunately, a photograph of the missing man is not available.

Mr Thomas is staying in Shanklin for the duration of his holiday, so could potentially make an effort to head to the seaside town.

UPDATE @ 19:30 – WightSAR have been called out to assist Hampshire Constabulary this evening in the search for Mr Thomas.

The volunteer organisation were tasked at 18:50.

UPDATE @ 19:41 – Mr Brian Thomas has been found safe and well near to Carisbrooke Castle this evening, the sister site of Osborne House.
