UPDATED: Emergency services have this afternoon attended a serious road traffic collision on the outskirts of Shanklin.
Police, fire and ambulance crews, as well as the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, were called to the incident on Victoria Avenue, near to the junction with Upper Hyde Lane – an area known as Cliff Bridge – shortly after 12:20.
Island Echo understand two scooterists, taking part in this weekend’s International Scooter Rally, collided with a brick wall before falling over 10 metres down a bank to the cycle path below.
One female, believed to be the passenger, has received serious but non life-threatening injuries and has been airlifted to hospital by the HIOWAA. Island Echo understand she has received a broken arm and could not feel the lower half of her body.
The male rider is believed to have suffered cuts and bruises.
Despite initial reports, Victoria Avenue/Shanklin Road is passable with care. Southern Vectis’ Route 2 buses are no longer diverting via Canteen Road.
