The main road between Sandown and Newport has been closed near Apse Heath due to emergency water works.
A burst main has resulted in the closure of Newport Road between Apse Heath roundabout and Sandown Airport.
Some residents in the local vicinity are without supply this afternoon (Saturday).
Motorists are currently being diverted in both directions via Whitely Bank or The Downs.
Southern Vectis say their Route 8 buses will divert with an additional stop outside Aldi on Whitecross Lane.
It is currently unknown how long the road will remain closed for.
UPDATE MONDAY – Island Roads has issued the traffic order for the above closure.
Newport Road has been closed from its junction with Isle of Wight Airport westwards for a distance of 137 metres.
The reason for the closure as stated above is due to burst water main and to allow repairs to carriageway surfacing.
The signed diversion is via Sandown Road, Arthurs Hill, Queens Road, North Road, High Street, Victoria Avenue, Godshill Road, Whiteley Bank, Canteen Road, Newchurch Bridleway 33b, Ventnor Road and Newport Road in both directions.
The diversion route will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
The closure was put in force from 14:00 hours on 25th April 2020, for a maximum period of five days or until the water main and carriageway are repaired, whichever is sooner.
UPDATE TUESDAY @ 17:45 – Newport Road, Apse Heath has now reopened to traffic.
