Sandown Historical Association officially unveiled their ‘Sandown Chronicle’ restoration and digitalisation project on ‘National Make A Difference Day’ as part of a day of displays and dialogue, with local residents and councillors at Sandown Library.
Derek Poole, from the Historical Association, said:
“We have rescued decades of editions of the Chronicle, recording the history of the Bay as it happens, and we would like to thank Sandown Town Council for their support of the project, and continued interest as it rolls out.”

Sandown Mayor Paddy Lightfoot, who opened the exhibition, added:
“Derek and his team of dedicated volunteers, have painstaking restored this treasure trove of information, capturing the life and times of Sandown from the mid 1800’s.”
The Historical Association regularly puts on exhibitions, has contributed to local films such as ‘Growing Up In The Bay – The War Years’, and welcome new members or artefacts.
Derek concluded:
‘Thanks to Louise and the library team for all of their help, and their support of the association – this is really important resource for local residents and researchers of local history’.
