The generosity of a local businessman means Ryde Inshore Rescue are back in action from today (Tuesday) with a temporary lifeboat, allowing the life-saving organisation to offer a limited service.
The use of a 4m RIB has been secured for as long as the rescue service require it thanks to a local supporter, who does not wish to be named. The temporary boat is a replacement for Ryde Rescue 2, the smaller of the two lifeboats that were damaged by vandals last week.
It is hoped that a Ryde Rescue 1 replacement can be arranged by the end of this week, should a RIB that has been offered be deemed suitable.
To allow the repairs to get underway on the full-time lifeboats, Ryde Inshore Rescue are appealing for the use of a twin axle boat trailer that be borrowed for a couple of weeks to move Ryde Rescue 1 to the repair company on the mainland. Anyone who can offer such a trailer is asked to contact the volunteer team on 01983 564564.
